Working closely with Latin and Central America

October 22, 2014

With the spotlight on December’s COP conference on climate change in Lima, Peru, my appointment to the Parliamentary delegations for relations with the Latin American countries (EUROLAT) and the Delegation for Relations with Central America (DCAM) is timely.

These groups are vital in the ongoing dialogue between the EU and the emerging and established economies in Latin America.

As the new shadow rapporteur on sustainable mining for the EUROLAT delegation, I am determined to ensure the rights of indigenous people are respected wherever mineral exploitation is at work. I will also call for stricter measures on monitoring and preventing the negative environmental impacts born out of mining and will strive to ensure clear labelling on mined natural resources that may have contributed to funding conflicts.
